13 November 2017 – Filipino organization Bayanihan den filippinske forening i Grenland (“Bayanihan”) celebrated its 20th Anniversary with a Cultural Night, on 4 November 2017, in Skien, Norway. The Bayanihan organization is composed of Filipinos who have found their second homes in the district of Grenland, Telemark, Norway.
Aside from the presentation of Philippine dances, specifically curated to highlight the spirit of bayanihan among Filipinos, the evening was marked by the recognition of the pioneer members of the Bayanihan organization, since its establishment in 1997.
In her remarks, the Philippine Embassy’s Third Secretary and Vice Consul Christiansen Cabahug congratulated the Bayanihan for living up to their organization’s name, by extending assistance to Filipinos in Grenland, and conducting fundraising activities for calamity-stricken communities in the Philippines.
Skien Mayor Hedda Foss Five, and Porsgrunn Mayor Robin Kåss, who both attended the event, acknowledged the active involvement of the Bayanihan in the Grenland community through the years, which brings together Philippine and Norwegian traditions and culture. END
