Filipino Pride Shines in Norway’s Culinary Scene

28 October 2017, Stavanger, Norway – The Philippine Embassy in Oslo met with top chefs Christian Andre Pettersen and Roger Asakil Joya, and restaurateur and food writer Jacqueline Chio-Lauri, to explore opportunities for the promotion of Philippine cuisine in Norway.

Chef Christian Andre Pettersen, whose mother is from Cebu, is Norway's candidate to the prestigious Bocuse d'Or, one of the world's most difficult cooking competitions, which is to be held in Lyon, France, in January 2019. He is the head chef at Restaurant Mondo in Sandnes, Norway. 

Chef Roger Asakil Joya, who was born in Cavite, is the head chef at Sabi Omakase, an exclusive restaurant in Stavanger, Norway, which was awarded an illustrious Michelin star this year. He is the co-owner and founding partner of Sabi Sushi, Norway's largest and leading chain in high quality sushi.

Ms. Jacqueline Chio-Lauri is the editor of ‘The Migrant Filipino Kitchen,’ a collection of stories and recipes by people of Filipino descent from around the world. The book has been awarded the Sunshot Prose Finalist Prize 2017, and will be published by Illinois-based Agate Surrey in 2018.
