20 October 2017, Oslo – Senator Franklin Drilon heads to Oslo, Norway, after participating in the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly held in St. Petersburg, Russia.
During his brief stay in Norwegian capital, Senator Drilon, on a courtesy visit, met with MP Svein Roald Hansen of the Norwegian Parliament. MP Hansen was the Head of Delegation of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Parliamentary Committee that visited the Philippines in October 2016.Among the topics discussed, was the status of the ratification of the PH-EFTA Free Trade Agreement. The Agreement between the Philippines and the four EFTA countries - Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway and Swtizerland is hoped to boost Philippine exports, particularly agriculture exports, to Europe; encourage investments in the services and non-service sectors, and obtain greater market access by Filipino professionals.
Senator Drilon also met with Elisabeth Slåttum and Idun Tvedt of the Section for Peace and Reconciliation at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and discussed Norway’s efforts to peace-building in the Philippines. Ms. Slåttum who served as Norway’s Special Envoy to the Peace Process between the Philippine Government and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) since 2014, will turn over her funstions to Ms. Tvedt this month.
