A LETTER FROM THE PHILIPPINE AMBASSADOR TO THE FILIPINO COMMUNITY IN NORWAY

Dear Kababayans,

The past few weeks have been trying times not only for us here in Norway, but also for our countrymen back home and for the rest of the world. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected every aspect of our lives. All of us are faced with great odds in the battle against this virus.

The report of the Norwegian Institute of Public Health issued on 02 April 2020 indicated that thirty-four (34) individuals who have been tested COVID-19 positive were born in the Philippines. The Philippine Embassy has requested clarification on this data from the relevant Norwegian authorities. However, the Embassy was advised that due to data protection rules, details on these individuals cannot be disclosed.

The Philippine Embassy condoles and sympathizes with all those who have been affected by the virus, regardless of their citizenship. The Embassy has been reaching out to leaders and its other contacts within the different Filipino communities in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland for information on the situation of Filipinos, which will guide us in extending appropriate assistance. As soon as information is received, the Embassy makes every effort to contact family members to verify the information, while keenly respecting the request for privacy of the family.

The Philippine Embassy shares the concern of the Filipino community in Norway for our Filipinos who have been tested COVID-19 positive, and joins the prayer that the latter may soon recover.

The Philippine Embassy thanks the Filipino community  for taking the COVID-19 epidemic seriously. The Embassy appreciates that Filipinos are abiding by the Norwegian safety protocols, including the guidelines on social distancing, staying home and self-quarantine. These are all important as we are all doing all we can to slow the spread.

The Philippine Embassy requests all of us to continue cooperating in the fight against the virus and in saving as many lives as possible.
