A Piano Concert and Introduction to Philippine Music History for the Filipino Community in Oslo

24 May 2019 – As an opening salvo to its piano concert series to celebrate the 121st Anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence, the Philippine Embassy in Oslo hosted a free concert for the members of the Filipino community in Oslo and friends at the St. Joseph’s Church.

Despite the rainy weather, members of the Filipino community and friends made an effort to attend the event and were enthralled by Dr. Sunico’s performance. Dr. Sunico brought them back to memory lane playing Filipino songs such as "Kumintang", "Bato sa Buhangin", "Saranggola ni Pepe", "Kundiman" and "Bayan Ko". The performance was coupled with a lecture introduction to Philippine Music History.

The celebration was realized with the unstinting support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) led by Chairman Virgilio S. Almario, the assistance of Fr. Jose Johan Dumandan and the Sacred Heart Filipino Chaplaincy, and the cooperation of the DFA-Cultural Diplomacy Unit under the Office of Strategic Communications and Research led by Undersecretary Ernesto C. Abella.
