25 April 2019, Stockholm – For the first time in years, the ASEAN Committee in Stockholm (ACS) met with six Ambassadors present. The Committee is chaired by H.E. Bagas Hapsoro, the Ambassador of Indonesia, and is composed of the Ambassadors of Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Except for the Philippine Ambassador, the five ASEAN Ambassadors are all based in Stockholm. H.E. Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia of the Philippine Embassy in Oslo was warmly welcomed by her ASEAN counterparts.
In a lunch hosted by Ambassador Batoon-Garcia on 25 April 2019 in Stockholm, the ASEAN Ambassadors explored possible avenues in enhancing ASEAN’s image and attractiveness as an economic partner of Sweden. They exchanged views on Sweden’s interest in expanding its relations with the ASEAN countries, and the the opportunities for increasing trade and investment flows between ASEAN and Sweden. They agreed to increase interaction with Sweden’s business community, including through dialogues and business seminars.
The Philippine Embassy in Oslo, Norway, has concurrent jurisdiction over the other three Nordic countries, namely Iceland, Finland and Sweden. END
