Embassy Commemorates the 25th Anniversary of EDSA People Power

Philippine Embassy officers and staff, together with some members of the Filipino community, commemorated the 25th Anniversary of EDSA People Power at the Embassy premises by holding a flag raising ceremony, a day-long film showing, and a simple Filipino breakfast feast last 25 February 2011.
Chargé d’Affaires Evelyn Austria D. Garcia led the celebration and read the message of President Benigno S. Aquino III to those present while Third Secretary & Vice Consul Lenna Eilleen C. de Dios-Sison read the message of then Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Alberto G. Romulo. Attaché Consuelo E. Cauton led the people in reciting the oath to the Philippine flag.

A day-long film showing depicting scenes and key people of the 1986 EDSA People Power was first set up at the Chancery and later on, moved to the Consular Section to remind Filipino and foreign applicants alike of the historic moment that transpired 25 years ago when democracy was restored in the Philippines and the charismatic and unassuming housewife of the late Senator Benigno Aquino, Jr. and mother of the current President, Mrs. Corazon C. Aquino, rose to power and became the first woman President of the nation and an international icon of democracy and a peaceful revolution.
