Embassy Launches New Electronic Passport

Embassy Launches New Electronic Passport

The Philippine Embassy in Oslo recently launched the new electronic Passport (ePassport) at its Consular Section and has started to accept and process applications for the latter starting 03 January 2011 (Monday) from 9AM to 2PM.

The new Philippine ePassport is fully compliant with the high security standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). It features an embedded integrated circuit chip that allows faster verification of the identity of the passport holder. It is also virtually tamper-proof and a deterrent against identity theft, as it contains the biometric information of the holder and a unique identification number.

Due to its advanced security features, arrival formalities at immigration counters in international airports shall be easier for ePassport holders. In addition, it will facilitate ease in making faster airline travel arrangements.

The new ePassort also contains more pages (44), providing savings as well as ease of travel for frequent Filipino travelers.

Holders of the maroon colored Machine Readable Passport (MRP) need not apply for the new ePassport. However, holders of green Philippine passports are encouraged to apply, especially those with passports about to expire in the next six (6) months.

With the ePassport, applicants no longer have to bring passport photos as their photo will be taken on the spot. For more information about the ePassport requirements, please click here.
