The Philippine Embassy family in Oslo hosted a simple dinner reception last 31 July for Coach Emma Fernandez and Team Philippines – a delegation of Filipino and Filipino-Norwegian young boys – that participated in Norway Cup, the biggest annual football tournament for young children in the world which was held on 29 July-4 August 2012.
Team Philippines, which played a total of five (5) games, won two (2) games, lost two (2), and had one game that ended in a draw. The team placed 8th overall in its Team or Age Division. The team also played in Denmark for the Dana Cup.
The Philippine Embassy, and the Filipino community in Norway led by FILCOM Norway, provided a steady stream of supporters/cheerers and Filipino food during the course of the games. Through the generous donations of the community, the kids were also given the opportunity to enjoy Norway’s largest fun park, Tusenfryd.
The Norway Cup, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, is an annual event and is said to have welcomed over 32,000 young football players from 56 nations this year. 1,600 teams kicked off a total of 4,200 matches on 71 football fields in Ekeberg, Norway.
