OSLO, NORWAY - On the second day of the Philippine Flavors: A Culinary Tour with Margarita Forés, Asia’s Best Female Chef 2016, Chef Margarita Forés took over Mathallen Oslo and introduced the basics of Philippine cuisine to an enthusiastic audience. The event on 25 August 2018 was open to the public in one of Oslo’s favorite food halls.
Chef Margarita and her team held two live cooking demonstrations and food tasting. Chef Margarita prepared and served kinilaw and chicken pork adobo to the delight of the local residents, tourists and guests, who flocked to the food hall that day to witness the demonstration and participate in the food tasting. Chef Margarita explained the unique ingredients of kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche. She also demonstrated how to cook chicken-pork adobo, the classic Filipino dish known all over the world, and how it evolved from its Spanish beginnings to the modern versions of adobo cooked by Filipinos wherever they are.
The culinary tour also showcased Philippine liqueurs with distinctive Philippine flavors from Destileria Limtuaco, such as mango rum, calamansi, dalandan and coffee liqueurs; Philippine chocolates from award-winning Malagos, and Theo and Philo; and Philippine dried mangoes. Dried mangoes and chocolates were also made available for tasting during the cooking demonstrations and food tasting. Kulinarya recipe cards were distributed to the tasting public as part of the campaign to promote Philippine cuisine.
The 2018 Philippine Culinary Tour is a joint project of the Philippine Embassy and the Cultural Diplomacy Unit of the Department of Foreign Affairs’ Office of International Economic Relations.
The culinary tour will continue to Copenhagen in Denmark, and Stockholm and Malmö in Sweden, from 27 August to 08 September 2018. END
