PH EMBASSY IN OSLO CONGRATULATES THE PHILIPPINE TEAM

 TO THE 63RD INTERNATIONAL MATHEMATICAL OLYMPIAD (IMO)

OSLO 15 July 2022 – The Philippine Embassy in Oslo congratulates the successful participation of the Team Philippines to the the recently concluded 63rd International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) held in Oslo, Norway and the receiving of awards of all the Philippine team members.

The International Mathematical Olympiad is one of the most difficult and most prestigious mathematics competitions for high school students worldwide. This year´s edition was participated in by more than 100 countries with up to six (6) members in each team. IMO is considered the `world championship of high school mathematics competition´.

Philippine Ambassador to Norway Enrico T. Fos who warmly welcomed the PH team to the Chancery conveyed to the Philippine team members the collective joy and pride of the Filipino people in the team´s achievement.

As the students shared their proud moments during the competition, Ambassador Fos stressed that “their feat in this Math Olympiad is worthy of emulation by the other kids of their generation in the Philippines. After all, this is a math competition of the best and brightest high school math wizards worldwide.”

Every one of the 6-member Philippine Team received the following corresponding awards:

Two (2) Bronze Medals

Mohammad Nur Casib (Philippine Science High School - Central Mindanao Campus)

Raphael Dylan Dalida (Philippine Science High School - Main Campus)

Four (4) Honorable Mentions

Sarji Elijah Bona (De La Salle University - Senior High School)

Enrico Rolando Martinez (Philippine Science High School - Main Campus)

Rickson Caleb Tan (MGC New Life Christian Academy)

Filbert Ephraim Wu (Victory Christian International School)

The Philippine team was headed by Dr. Christian Paul Chan Shio (Team Leader, Ateneo de Manila University) on behalf of the Mathematical Society of the Philippines (MSP). Dr. Chan Shio was joined by Hazel Joy Shi (Deputy Leader, UP Diliman) and Russelle Guadalupe (Trainer, UP Diliman).

Chiba, Japan will host the 64th IMO next year. The Philippines first joined the IMO in 1988. END
