PHILIPPINE AMBASSADOR TO NORWAY ENRICO T. FOS RECEIVES A SECOND GAWAD MABINI (DAKILANG KAMANONG) FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE
PHILIPPINE AMBASSADOR TO NORWAY ENRICO T. FOS recently received another Gawad Mabini Award as Dakilang Kamanong for distinguished service from the President, in ceremonies beamed online from the Office of the President in Manila to the Philippine Embassy in Oslo.
The award is Ambassador Fos’ second and was given for his leadership in the repatriation en masse of Filipino citizens affected by the pandemic, his lead role in negotiations to combat the kafala system in the Mideast, his lead efforts in negotiating for safer migration of Filipinos as part of the Global Compact for Migration, and other achievements as Assistant Secretary at the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs.
The citation reads:
“The award is given in recognition of Ambassador Fos’ significant contributions to the rights and welfare of overseas Filipino workers; his spearheading of the DFA’s Covid response operation, particularly the mass repatriation of overseas Filipinos affected by the pandemic; his key role in establishing the one-stop shop at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport which facilitated the entry of inbound passengers and the implementation of mandatory health protocols during the pandemic; and in advancing the national interest in the area of migration in various capacities such as lead negotiator in the anti-kafala system for the Global Compact for Migration (GCM).”
Ambassador Fos earlier received the Gawad Mabini for assistance to Filipinos in distress in conflict zones, a traditional pillar of our Philippine diplomacy.
The second Gawad follows an earlier citation by the Office of the President for Ambassador Fos’ key role in the repatriated of Filipinos affected by upheavals of the Arab spring, in 2012.
