Philippine Embassy and Oslo Krisesenter Work Together in Informing Filipinos about Norway’s Laws on Domestic Violence

Mrs. Kristin Berntsen of the Oslo Krisesenter with Embassy personnel and Filipino community members

25 March 2021 – As part of its activities for National Women’s Month, the Embassy, together with Oslo Krisesenter, conducted a webinar on Norway’s laws on domestic violence. Mrs. Kristin Berntsen, Team Leader at the Oslo Krisesenter, served as the resource person for the webinar.

Mrs. Berntsen discussed the acts that could be defined as domestic violence under Norwegian laws, which may be physical, psychological, sexual, and economic abuse, and may involve latent, material, honor-related, or digital violence. Mrs. Berntsen also presented the different forms of assistance that Oslo Krisesenter offers to persons who are victims of domestic violence or violence in close relationships, including a 24-hour hotline, safe and temporary housing, and counselling and legal services. Contact details of the Oslo Krisesenter are available at http://www.oslokrisesenter.no/ According to Mrs. Berntsen, each kommune in Norway should have a dedicated crisis center for persons who experience domestic violence.

The Embassy, for its part, talked about its consular services and assistance for the Filipino community in Norway, including for Filipinos who experience abuse in their relationships. The Embassy reminded the participants and viewers about its contact details available at https://philembassy.no/contact-us

Mrs. Berntsen and the Embassy encouraged Filipinos in Norway to seek assistance and report cases of abuse to the Oslo Krisesenter and the Embassy, and disseminate information on Norway’s laws on domestic violence.
