Deputy Chief of Mission and Consul General Maria Elena Algabre and members of the Filipino community in Sweden discussed the requirements, procedure, and benefits under the Philippines dual citizenship law
20 October 2019, Karlstad, Sweden – As part of its Gender and Development programs on Filipino migrant women, the Philippine Embassy held an Information Briefing on the Embassy’s Services and Legal Aid for the Filipino community in Karlstad, Sweden, and its neighboring municipalities. The Embassy had an open and engaging discussion with the Filipino migrant women who attended the briefing, most of whom were married to Swedish nationals.
Aside from questions on the Embassy’s services, the attendees inquired about the Philippine’s dual citizenship law including the rights and duties of becoming a dual citizen. The group also exchanged stories about their experiences as overseas Filipinos in Sweden.
The Embassy continues to reach out and provide services to address the specific concerns of Filipino migrant women not only in Sweden, but in Norway, Finland, and Iceland. Of the 15,064 Filipinos in Sweden, around 74% are women with 11,085 females and 3,259 males, according to Statistics Sweden. END
