19 November 2018 – Around 50 Filipino au pairs participated in the 2nd Post-Arrival Orientation Seminar (PAOS) held on 17 November 2018, at the Philippine Embassy in Oslo, Norway. On its second year, the PAOS for Filipino au pairs in Norway was conducted by the Philippine Embassy, in coordination with the Caritas Au Pair Center in Norway.
Resource speakers and panelists of the Post-Arrival Orientation Seminar included Ms. Anne Nogva of the Caritas Au Pair Center, Ms. Tatjana Devold of the Norwegian Immigration Directorate (UDI), Ms. Arbresha Dula of the International Organization for Migration, Atty. Gunhild Vehusheia of Vi§Vé Advokater AS, and Atty. Hellen Hafzullah of Advokatfirmaet Tveter og Kløvfjell AS. Members of the Filipino community in Oslo were also in attendance, sharing their experiences on how to adjust living in Norway.
During the open forum, the resource speakers, panelists, and participants had an engaging, open, and candid discussion on the Norwegian au pair scheme. The participants actively shared their experiences as au pairs and raised questions and concerns about their stay in Norway.
The resource speakers and panelists emphasized that the au pairs should learn about Norwegian culture and people as much as they can, and encouraged them to speak up and report incidents of violations of their au pair contracts.
The Post-Arrival Orientation Seminar is a continuing program of the Philippine Embassy to assist Filipino au pairs in Norway as they adjust to lifestyle changes in Norway, and cope with cultural differences between the Philippines and Norway. END
