28 May 2019 – The Philippine Embassy in Oslo in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Austria featured internationally acclaimed pianist Dr. Raul Sunico to a Mini-Concert with members of the Museum Group in Oslo in attendance. The concert venue was at the Austrian Embassy Residence and with Madame Yan Donko, wife of Austrian Ambassador Wilhelm Maximilian Donko hosting.
Dr. Sunico started his performance with an introduction to Philippine Music History, which he interspersed with humorous anecdotes. The concert’s program offered Philippine songs with some pieces personally arranged by Dr. Sunico such as "Bato sa Buhangin", "Saranggola ni Pepe" and "Bayan Ko". Most of the audience heard Filipino compositions for the first time and were impressed with Dr. Sunico’s skill. In appreciation for the Austrian Embassy’s support, Dr. Sunico played Austrian composer Franz Peter Schubert’s "Impromptu No. 3 in G flat major, Op. 90".
The mini concert was followed by a light lunch of Filipino food, which included a menu of tapsilog, chicken barbecue and pinakbet and Austrian desserts.
The celebration was realized with the unstinting support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) led by Chairman Virgilio S. Almario, and the DFA-Cultural Diplomacy Unit under the Office of Strategic Communications and Research led by Undersecretary Ernesto C. Abella. END
