01 May 2019, Helsinki – Along the quiet Pieni Roobertinkatu in Helsinki, one finds Sentro with its warm and savory dishes in a laid-back setting.
Sentro is the newest restaurant promising “a gastronomic journey through Asia. The team at Sentro have Filipino roots; we have grown from this and given it a modern flair.” The restaurant offers some of the favorite Asian dishes, including much-loved Filipino dishes.
For starters, one can have the Sisig Spring Roll, based on a popular Filipino street food, and made of grilled pork belly and calamansi mayonaise. Calamansi is a Filipino citrus. Or one may opt instead for Trio Kilawin, cured salmon in tamarind sauce and a white fish in calamasi sauce. Kilawin is the Filipino counterpart of ceviche. For a main dish, we may have the Crispy Pork Adobo, Sentro’s imaginative interpretation of the classic Filipino dish known all over the world, or try Steak Kaldereta, a Spanish-inspired stew, which Sentro serves with an entrecote of foie gras. For those with a sweet tooth, the Tropical Cheesecake, of tropical fruits, coconut cream and coconut crumble biscuit would be an ideal ending of the meal.
Sentro will not only nourish but will also warm the heart. Sentro is a celebration of the optimism and talent of the Filipino diaspora. Sentro is a product of 15 to 20 years of experience as chefs of its four Filipino owners, who have worked in 5-star hotels, cruise liners, casual and fine dining restaurants all over the world.
Ambassador Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia and Consul General Mariel Algabre of the Philippine Embassy in Oslo, Norway, together with the Philippine Honorary Consul General in Helsinki, Mr. Jyrki Kupila, and Consul Teresita Ruutu, had a delicious sampling of the dishes in Sentro. The promotion of Philippine cuisine is one of the priorities of the Embassy, which also covers Finland, Iceland, and Sweden. END
